· The annual Cecil T. Patterson Memorial Tournament was a huge success. Thanks to all those who attended & entered. Thanks also to all the black belts who helped with the tournament, including Mr. Smotherman, who went over on Friday to assist Mr. Patterson with the setup in Columbia.  Thanks also to the Cole’s, who volunteered in the rings.

· Most appreciation goes to the Otsuka family for coming to Tennessee...and to Mr. John Patterson, who went to extraordinary lengths to get them here. He also did a wonderful job organizing the tournament, with great assistance from the Zimmerman’s. We should express our appreciation to all of these people!  If you did not meet John’s wife Julie, she was one of the nice ladies taking up money at the door.

· It was wonderful to get an opportunity to see and speak with Sensei Kazutaka Otsuka again. He is such a genuinely friendly, pleasant person, and so knowledgeable!.  In addition, many of us had the privilege of talking with 2nd Grand Master Otsuka as his son interpreted. He is a delightful man with a warm personality and good sense of humor. What a great event for the U.S. Eastern Wado Ryu Federation. Congratulations to all concerned!
