Jenny Carter

Mrs. Carter began karate in 1982 in Athens, AL, with Sensei Don Hendrix.  She is a sixth degree black belt and has been teaching karate for over 20 years. See Mr. Carter’s bio for more.

Barry Smotherman

Mr. Smotherman began karate in this school in 1982.  He is a sixth degree black belt and is one of our regular instructors.  He works for Sanford Corporation and lives in Lewisburg with his wife Brenda. He teaches our Saturday class.

Steve Bass

Steve Bass began training with his son Chad in January 1992.  They both achieved Shodan in February 1996.  Another of his sons, Jimmy is also a Shodan. Steve earned his 4th Dan in February 2003. His wife, Charlene is the only family member who doesn’t have a black belt!   Steve received his 5th Dan on 9/17/07.

Russell Williams

Russell Williams and his son Cole earned their 1st Dans in 1999.  Russell Williams achieved 2nd Dan in April 2002.  He and his wife Carol live in Lewisburg.  He works at Saturn in Spring Hill, TN.

Josh Miller

Josh Miller began karate in April of 1996.  He achieved Shodan in June, 1999, and is now a 3rd degree black belt.  Mr. Miller works for the State of TN.

Bill Carter

Bill Carter, son of Roe & Jenny Carter, began training in our first children’s class when he was six.  He was spot promoted by Sensei Cecil Patterson in May of 2001 to 1st Dan and is now a 2nd Dan.  He is a student at Marshall County High School.

Dianne Savage

Dianne Savage began training in karate in 1998.  She achieved her Shodan in October 2002 and is now a 2nd Dan. Mrs. Savage is married to Marshall Savage and has two daughters, Jennifer & Jessica.  She owns Dianne’s Specialty Hair Salon.

Josh Winn

Josh Winn began his training in September 1998.  He earned his Shodan in October 2002 and is now a 2nd Dan.  Mr. Winn works at Walker Die Casting in Lewisburg.

Lee Johnson

Lee Johnson is a 1st Degree who was tested and earned his rank October 23, 2005.  Lee also holds a 2nd Dan in Shotokan karate, another Japanese style which developed from the teachings of Funakoshi.  Lee is a graduate of Cornersville High.

Absent Friends Mike & Terri Burgess

Special friends Mike & Terri Burgess we count as an active part of our school, though Mike is attending Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, at this time.  Mike is a 4th Dan and Terri is a 1st Dan.   Mike also has a Nidan in Katori Shinto Ryu, which teaches the art of the sword.  Mike & Terri have a new school in New Haven, Kentucky which is prospering.

Kelby Walker

Kelby Walker was tested and earned his Shodan in the spring of 2004.  He began karate in September, 2000, in our children’s class.  He is a student at Marshall County High School. Kelby is now a 2nd degree black belt.

Eric Pamperin is working in Indiana with students who are trying to get federal aid for college.  He is a 1st Dan who received his rank 4/30/06.  He is working out with Sensei Lee there.  Contact him: EPamperi@yahoo.com

Donald Coney

Donald Coney is 13 years old and in the 8th grade at Lewisburg Middle School.  He is the son of Donald and Sonya Coney of Lewisburg.  He earned his black belt October 29, 2006.

Grady Osborne

Grady Osborne works at Sanford when he isn’t in karate or raising goats.  His “Hillbilly Fainters” took over a dozen places in the last Goats, Music, and More Festival in Lewisburg. He and his wife, Tonya have two children, Dylan & Laura.  He achieved Shodan October 29, 2006.

Corey Schultz

15-year-old Corey Schultz is the son of Michelle and Tim Schultz of Chapel Hill.  His mom describes him as having finally found “his niche” in karate.  He earned his black belt October 29, 2006.
